Understanding the value of moments

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory.”

Wise words from Dr Seuss, and ones I found myself thinking yesterday as I had the pleasure of attending my first annual invitationlunch as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).

It was set in the hallowed surroundings of the House of Lords, which is rich in history and grandeur, as well as being a throughly enjoyable place to visit.

I’m celebrating my birthday today, and as I do every year, I’ve been reflecting on the moments and memories that have made up the past 12 months.

It’s been an eventful year and certainly one of huge personal change, not least due to the birth of my twin boys on Christmas Day 2014.

I’ve grown All Things IC consultancy and had the pleasure of working with some utterly brilliant comms professionals and organisations to help them achieve communication excellence.

It’s also seen my family and I fraught with worry during a difficult pregnancy and illnesses for myself and my children. So it feels fantastic to be celebrating turning 35 and looking ahead.

CIPR_Fellowslunch2015Yesterday was a proud moment to join my fellow Fellows for the first time since being honoured as one last year and meet with comms professionals I’ve admired from afar for a number of years.

It was hosted by Lord Clement-Jones CBE and CIPR President Sarah Pinch (who I’m pictured with), and attended by 75 Fellows.

I place importance of my professional development, which is why I’m a CIPR Accredited Practitioner and take the time every year to complete my Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

People kept commenting to me that I seemed to be the youngest in the room, and I felt privileged to be among the great and good of the comms community and to learn from them. Age is just a number after all…

Thank you CIPR for organising the event and for the opportunity to understand the value of moments.

Don’t forget you can save 20 per cent off tickets for the annual CIPR Inside internal comms conference I’m speaking at in October in London by being a reader of this very blog. Find out how.

Thank you for stopping by,

Rachel
