Countdown to Christmas: Day 13

HSBC 150 How can you mark the 150th birthday of a company? Apart from needing a rather large cake to hold all the candles, an organisation which originated in 1865 has incredible stories to tell.

This 13th day of my Countdown to Christmas series features HSBC, one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organisations.

It is marking its 150th birthday by sharing videos externally featuring employees narrating their story.

hsbc-logoI like the fact employees are at the core, it’s refreshing to have real people and not scripted actors and images in corporate videos!

As one would expect, 150 years has generated a lot of content including images, archives, ideas and facts about the organisation. The company is looking inwards to celebrate outwardly.

HSBC Now
I’ve written before about their dedicated YouTube channelHSBC Now. It is used to share internal tales externally and they’re also on Twitter @HSBC_Now and using #HSBC150. Happy birthday HSBC, I’ll keep an eye on your channel and look forward to finding out more.

Who are HSBC?

HSBC_150
HSBC serves 48 million customers through four global businesses: Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Commercial Banking, Global Banking and Markets, and Global Private Banking. Its network covers 72 countries and territories in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, North America and Latin America.

Its story began in Hong Kong in 1865. A series of videos are being released to guide you through the rich and varied history, and Chaker Zeraiki, Head of Business Banking in the UAE, narrates the first one.

He explores the life and times of Thomas Jackson, an ambitious young Irishman who became one of HSBC’s first ever recruits and a driving force behind the bank’s early success.

You can watch the first two chapters below and via the HSBC Now channel on YouTube:
