Strategic internal comms up for discussion

Today the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ sector group, CIPR Inside hosted the latest in its free webinar series for members.

Chair of the group James Harkness (James Harknesspictured) and Jane Mitchell, both from HarknessKennett consultancy shared their thoughts with IC pros on the topic of “Being a Strategic Business Partner” and were on hand to answer questions.

Among the topics they covered were how to move from tactical to strategic work, the role of communication professionals in business, overcoming perceptions and boundaries, and giving plenty of top tips and advice.

If you missed the webinar, you can see the information that was covered below, and it led to some good discussion via the chat function of the webinar between IC pros.

I wrote about “the worst task in internal communication” a few months back and know from the feedback I received then that this is a topic that resonates. So with that in mind, I hope you find the deck useful.

Have your IC work recognised

Don’t forget the extended deadline to enter the CIPR Inside #insidestory awards is 11.59pm GMT on 6 December. There are lots of new categories for 2014 and you don’t need to be a CIPR Inside member to enter.

At this time of year I’m sure you’re reflecting back on a busy 12 months and writing appraisals and reviews, do take a look at the awards website to see if there’s a category or two that fits with what you’ve done.

I have the pleasure of being one of the Judges, I obviously can’t share which category I’ll be judging, but having been one last year too and for other industry awards, I’m constantly impressed with all the smart work taking place inside companies when it comes to internal communication.

Counting down to Christmas

Starting Sunday 1 December I’m going to be rummaging through my blog archive for Advent and highlighting a comms pro a day as we count down to Christmas. From 1-24 December I will be sharing the thoughts of IC pros who have written guest articles, with the final one going live on Christmas Eve.

I’ll then be taking a break and be back in January. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to my blog this year, it’s always good to feature new voices and highlight what’s working well and what there is to learn from situations that don’t go quite as planned.
