The Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC) informed me yesterday I’ve been appointed as a Fellow. What an honour, I’m delighted to accept and be recognised by my peers. Thank you.

SuzannePeckWhat does it mean, apart from adding FIIC after my name?

“It’s a public, highly respected quality mark and is also becoming a prerequisite for many employers seeking to recruit for senior IC roles,” says IoIC president Suzanne Peck (pictured). “As an institute we value the diversity that professionals with differing backgrounds and abilities bring to the sector and want to continue to recognise effective contribution.”

IC trends Let’s get back to the ebook. A spokesman for the Institute @IoICNews said: “A number of experts and thought leaders from the world of internal communication and related fields have shared their thoughts and views on where IC is – and should be – heading as we move into 2016.

“Issues covered include: how digital developments are impacting the workplace and resulting solutions and challenges for the IC practitioner; the changing role of the internal communicator; the power of data; and new ways to inspire and engage.”

I wrote about the future of work in the ebook alongside contributions from:

  • Scott McKenzie, partner and Board director at Lansons, and director of the Change and Employee Engagement practice,
  • Wedge Black, IC blogger and founder of the Intranet Now conference,
  • Paul Jones, director at IoIC’s Agency of the Year, Sequel Group,
  • Matthew Partovi, leader of Culturevist, a support network for those wishing to develop company culture
  • Elizabeth Marsh, director of research at the Digital Workplace Group
  • Graham Stewart, senior designer at 20/20 Productions Europe and winner of the 2015 ICon award for digital innovator
  • Dean van Leeuwen, an author and strategist who works with leaders and organisations globally, helping them strike out and find new ground both in their thinking and in their actions.

Humanising communication

1
I particularly enjoyed reading the chapter by Steve Doswell, IoIC Chief Executive. He wrote about the quest for authenticity and the yearning for a human response to digitisation.

In other words, how to retain a sense of intimacy, personal touch and balancing the often impersonal nature of tools and technology.

Humanising internal communication: it’s a people thing is going to be the overarching theme for the upcoming IoIC annual conference (IoIC Live) in Birmingham from 5-6 May 2016.

Is this a topic you’re working on? As ever I welcome ideas for guest articles. If you would like to share your story, please and get in touch with your thoughts.
