Director of Communications, The Church of England
Closing date: noon on 2 August 2017
Location: London.

The Church of England plays a vital role in the life of the nation.  Through a network of parishes across the UK it provides Christian ministry and strengthens community life across numerous urban, suburban and rural settings.  In addition, many of its members make a high-level contribution to a range of the most prominent public bodies.

The Director of Communications sits at the heart of The National Church Institutions (NCIs), a complex and diverse organisation which administers core functions.  The NCI Communications team is increasingly turning its attention to reaching those who are not fully engaged with the Church of England, in partnership with all parts of the Church, and on behalf of the NCIs.

It is responsible for enabling co-ordinated, effective communications within and beyond the Church.  This includes national press relations and news management, digital presence and evangelism.

The Director of Communications will be responsible for the team developing and implementing communication strategies for the Church of England nationally. Working at a strategic level with the Church’s Archbishops and Bishops, and with senior staff colleagues, the post holder will oversee the delivery of communications strategies for the NCIs, as well as working creatively on areas of digital evangelism and discipleship.

The successful candidate will bring significant strategic communications experience. Candidates will have experience of working at senior levels in complex and dispersed structures with a broad range of stakeholders and will bring a strong intellect combined with outstanding relationship building and influencing skills. A strong communicator and team player, you will be able to challenge constructively and to work effectively in a changing environment.

This post carries an occupational requirement to be a practising Christian (in accordance with the Equality Act 2010).  We would welcome applicants from practising Christians including those of long-standing, or a more recent commitment to their faith.

Saxton Bampfylde is acting as an employment agency advisor to the Church of England on this appointment.
