We are currently recruiting for a Head of EU and Brexit Public Policy, to manage and execute an EU and Brexit public policy strategy for Aviva, in close conjunction with senior leaders and expert teams.
You will lead the EU Public Policy team in shaping the external policy environment for Aviva, focusing on issues and campaigns which are important for customers, the company and society. You will become a trusted counsel internally and externally on key issues, guided by our values.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prioritise the key legislative and public policy issues in relation to our various businesses and our customers.
Proactively manage Aviva’s reputation among key political stakeholders and influencers through external contact and campaigning activities; represent Aviva at trade associations and elsewhere.Contribute to the development and achievement of Aviva’s business strategy and plans, by strictly aligning public policy activities and programmes with commercial imperatives.
Lead the EU Public Policy team in the management and delivery of the EU public policy strategy and plan, including working across teams on Brexit.
Ensure that future issues important to Aviva and the insurance sector are anticipated, identified and proactively managed.
Build productive relationships with key internal stakeholders, being a trusted advisor and providing strategic counsel on EU public policy issues.
Act as a promoter/source of new ideas and challenge to the status quo.
Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of how Governments and policy making bodies operate (particularly the EU institutions, and in relation to Brexit).
- Strong influencing, negotiation and networking skills.
- Brilliant communications skills.
- Knowledge of financial services industry, regulatory framework, competitors and key dynamics.
- Programme management.
- Additional European language would be preferable.
Working with politicians, officials, public bodies, campaigning groups and trade associations.
Providing advice/guidance and influence at senior management level.
Analysis of policies and proposals, building positions by working with internal teams across products, comms, legal, risk and others.
Translating complex matters in a concise way.
Running innovative campaigns, bringing the voice of the customer to the fore.
