Internal Communications Business Partner, Thames Water
Location: Reading, Head Office
Salary: Up to £60k
Benefits: You will also receive bonus, car allowance, private medical insurance and industry-leading pension scheme
Closing Date: 16 November 2018
What is the purpose of this role?
We work in a critical and fascinating business that delivers water and wastewater service to a quarter of the UK, provides world class drinking water to 9m people, sustains our rivers and produces enough renewable energy every year to power a town the size of Swindon.
And we want you to take a lead role in evolving the way we communicate with our people.
We’re currently going through exciting and innovating change throughout the business and are only looking for the very best to be part of this journey.
It is vital you not only have an understanding of – but a real passion for – the power of internal communications to drive change and engagement and assist a company in achieving its objectives.
We need an experienced communications leader with energy and enthusiasm to help us on our journey to become a leading communications function.
You’ll lead a small team to develop and deliver outstanding communications and effective campaigns for a number of business units.
You will be a business partner to four of our key Executive Team, becoming their trusted advisors and a vital member of their leadership communities. You will provide communications advice to senior managers and project teams; plan and deliver measurable communication campaigns; manage local events, and make sure the customer is at the heart of everything that we do.
What will this role involve?
This is a fast-paced role in Britain’s biggest water company where you will generate bags of ideas while managing multiple projects in order to inform and engage our workforce.
You’ll own local communications strategies and a number of cross-company campaigns to make sure we reach our people in the right way, so they feel ownership of the business and drive the exciting changes being made.
Your team will deliver engaging employee and corporate events, workshops and conferences and large-scale and smaller function-based events.
You will participate in the operational events desk rota, following best practice guidelines as an event responder for internal crisis communications and be part of an out-of-hours rota to provide communications and stakeholder support during major events.
This role is based in our central Reading head office, offering a salary up to £60k. In addition to the basic salary you will also receive bonus, car allowance, private medical insurance and industry-leading pension scheme.
What skills are we looking for?
To be successful with your application, you will need to have extensive internal communications experience, with a focus on business partnering and engagement.
We’re seeking someone with deep experience of working with senior stakeholders and is capable of calmly influencing a range of decision-makers.
You will be working alongside internal communications colleagues and a proven collaborative approach is non-negotiable.
Ideally, you’ll have experience in leading and developing communications teams, planning work and getting the best out of your team as well as developing them to be leaders of the future.
You’ll have a strong background in managing campaigns and measuring their success.
You will have excellent verbal, written and presentation skills and be able to write compelling, accurate and concise material for a range of internal audiences. You will have a good track-record of developing and delivering communications plans.
You’ll be digitally savvy and open to using new technology as part of our comms approach.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes and Sharepoint and email content systems such as Poppulo is preferred and experience in producing video and online content would be an advantage.
A strong preference for drinking tap water over bottled and commitment to not flush wet wipes down the toilet would also help your chances.
What make this role unique?
You’ll be given responsibility to take a lead communications role in significant areas of the business, managing relationships with our business leaders to understand and deliver their priorities.
This is a great opportunity to work independently and shape the job in the way you want while being as creative as possible.
You will also create brilliant measurable two-way campaigns that will help to drive performance and engagement across the business and play a major part in the success of Thames Water.
