Internal Engagement and Communications Manager, Barnado’s
Location: Barnardo House, Barkingside

Full Time: 36.25 hours per week
Maternity Leave Cover: 6 months from appt with possibility of extension up to 12 months
Salary: £33,423 – £41,421 p.a. plus £1,848 Outer London Weighting p.a.

Job Purpose:
To lead a team of professionals creating best in class internal communications that drives greater engagement with Barnardo’s so that staff are involved, informed and inspired in their day to day work.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and deliver the Barnardo’s internal communications and engagement strategy. Drive internal engagement by developing and managing internal communication strategies, plans and campaigns for specific activities, projects, initiatives and events.

Enable the communication of coherent joined-up messages by developing a strong understanding of key organisational issues and links between departments. Work closely with other Marketing, Communications and Media teams to ensure that messages communicated internally are consistent and co-ordinated with external messaging.

Manage staff and freelancers’ writing and editing of all internal communications publications, channels, tools and materials, including the intranet, Annual Review, email messages, video messages, ensuring quality control. Coach and develop Internal Communications Officers to deliver continuous improvement in the team.

Assess and manage all incoming communications requests, providing advice on appropriate approach, style, tone and cascade of communication.

Ensure compliance to legal and voluntary requirements for published and online documentation and ensure Barnardo’s policies are updated accordingly.

Supervise the project-management of key corporate events, including Barnardo’s Annual General Meeting and staff awards.

Manage the work of the team within a performance management framework in the most cost-effective manner and ensure the recruitment, retention, and high level performance of well-motivated staff. Develop appropriate monitoring and evaluation methods for work done in the team.

Take lead responsibilities for projects and work as designated by the head of section, to meet business priorities.

Deputise for head of section as required.
