Senior Internal Communications Officer, Greater Manchester Police

Salary: £27,519 – £29,307 per annum

The Force’s Corporate Communications Branch is responsible for ensuring the right information gets to the right communities.

As part of this it ensures the media are aware of policing operations, news and appeals on crime. It also develops campaigns to promote community safety and support local initiatives.

GMP recognises the key role the media play in communicating with communities and has an open approach to dealing with the media.

The successful candidate will have or be working towards a recognised qualification in internal communications, PR, media or marketing or educated to degree level or equivalent.

You will supervise, train and develop junior staff and improve staff communication across the Force. Your role will be to liaise with Force’s divisions and branches to provide advice and assistance, support the Press and Internal Communications Manager in implementing effective and innovative forms of staff engagement.

This role requires you to be experienced in building good working relationships with staff and senior management up to Chief Executive and Chief Officer level, to provide communication advice and strategies to support internal communication activities including managing critical incidents.

We are looking for you to have the ability to think creatively to solve problems and to prioritise your own workload by adopting a flexible approach to working hours.

It is essential that you are a competent computer user including Microsoft packages and the internet. To succeed you will have the ability to think strategically and demonstrate analytical skills to tailor the style of communication to meet audience needs.
