Senior Manager, Internal Communications, FT

Reports to: Global Communications Director

The Senior Manager, Internal Communications has a global remit to inform and engage FT employees with our strategy, business goals and charitable programme.

Reporting to the Global Communications Director, this person has two direct reports and works closely with colleagues in Hong Kong and New York. This is 12 month maternity cover contract.

Job purpose: To oversee the FT internal communications, employee engagement and charitable programme

Main duties and responsibilities:

Internal communications

  • Develop and execute the global internal communications and engagement strategy, ensuring that business goals, initiatives and people news are communicated effectively to FT employees

  • Support the CEO and FT management board with internal-facing materials, including staff memos, key messages, town hall presentations, and counsel to ensure communications are clear and aligned with our business strategy

  • Build and foster relationships across business functions and office locations to ensure employees are engaged and informed no matter where they are based

  • Manage and enhance internal communications channels and share company news in an engaging way through communications tools

  • Run a regular events programme for staff, including the FT Speaker Series in London

  • Work closely with HR and other senior leaders across the business to drive our employer brand strategy

  • Deliver internal communications for change projects, including the early 2019 headquarters office move, ensuring that employees’ voices are reflected in plans

  • Serve as deputy communications lead on the crisis management team

Strategic philanthropy and charitable activities

  • Oversee the FT’s philanthropic programme and budget, including charity partnerships and employee activities such as local volunteering opportunities

  • Manage all communications for the annual seasonal appeal, working closely with senior FT journalists, marketing teams and the charity partner to promote the appeal to readers and employees

General

  • Participate in any group-wide campaigns by the Communications & Marketing Group

  • Other duties as reasonably required from time to time.

Desired qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in a strategic communications role, ideally in-house, with a focus on internal communications

  • Experience in managing senior stakeholders within a business (e.g. CEO and management board level)

  • Excellent writing and editing skills

  • Experience managing direct reports and budgets

  • Experience with social media and communications tools and databases (Google Suite a plus)

  • Detail-oriented and highly organised

  • A proactive, enthusiastic approach with a passion for communications, media and journalism
