See you in a few weeks

I’m about to disappear for a couple of weeks and wanted to share why with you.

Clients and friends will know that one of my two-year-old twin sons has a rare congenital heart defect (which means he was born with it).

All being well, he’s due to have surgery later this week. So I am going to be focusing all my time and energy in getting him through it and ensuring his twin and my five-year-old daughter are ok. They are going to need their mummy now more than ever, so that’s my sole focus.

30 November update: Unfortunately, there wasn’t an intensive care bed available yesterday, so we’re now due back to GOSH again next week for pre-op, with his surgery scheduled for the week after.

He’s the reason why I’ve been raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, who have done an outstanding job in caring for him. Even though the deadline for my Bake It Better campaign has passed, donations are still welcome via the JustGiving page.

I spotted this poster in the waiting room at one of our many appointments this year and it’s an excellent reminder of the power of comms:

As someone who works out loud #WOL and is always sharing what I’m working on and thinking about via my blog, I didn’t want to vanish without explanation.

Thank you
Thank you to all my clients, friends and people in my network who have supported my family and I since his diagnosis last December. It’s been a difficult year, and this week should hopefully be the start of creating a fresh chapter that leads to better health for my son.

As a result, I’m not going to be monitoring emails/Tweets or having job adverts placed on the All Things IC website. There are lots of roles on there (including two at Lego!) to see you through.

However, you can still book your place on my upcoming Masterclasses and I’ll let you know when I’m back. There are places on the following one-day courses that you’re able to book now via my website:

Masterclasses cost £499 per person and take place in London. I’d love you to join me so we can concentrate on you.

Looking ahead
I’ve got some exciting content ideas and events planned for 2018 and can’t wait to share them with you, but will keep under my hat until this year is through.

Thank you to everyone who has listened to and provided feedback on my plans over the past few months.

Your advice has helped me shape them and I’m looking forward to celebrating All Things IC’s fifth birthday in January and revealing what’s ahead to benefit the comms community.

Get help with Christmas comms

If you are planning Christmas content over the next few weeks, do check out my recent blog posts.

I published them early and hope they help:

If you are stuck for Christmas gift ideas, please consider donating to GOSH to help families like mine. I cannot tell you the difference their communication and compassion has made to my family this year, it’s an incredible place.

I included their elf and penguin in my recent Christmas gift guide:

I will be back online soon.

Thank you as ever for stopping by,

Rachel
