Janet Hitchen is the Founder and Consultant of JanCo, which is launching soon. She’s the latest Comms professional to sit in my All Things IC hot seat and answer my questions.
Would you like to see your name here? These are the questions you need to answer, keep checking back as I’ll be bringing your voices to my blog.
Whether you’re brand new to the wonderful world of internal communication or have been working in the field for many years, you’re welcome to participate. Here are those questions again.
Q) What’s the best career advice you’ve been given or read?
Never, never give up.
Q) What do you love most about working in this field?
That IC puts people at the heart of the organisation.
Q) What is the biggest challenge internal communicators face?
A lack of reporting line clarity that leads to different flavours of IC depending on the organisation and means partners have different understandings of how IC can really support a business.
Q) What phrase or statistic do you repeat constantly in your work?
The 80/20 rule!
Q) What advice would you give someone thinking about starting a career in comms?
Be curious. Ask all the questions. There’s no such thing as too many questions or a daft question.
Q) What does a typical day or working week look like for you?
There’s no such thing as typical.
Q) Name a book or podcast you think every communicator should learn from, and why you’ve chosen it.
How to Fail with Elizabeth Day. Brilliant examination on how failure or adversity can actually propel you to big, bolder and better things.
Q) What’s your top tip to make sure internal comms is inclusive?
Be open. Be curious. Listen actively.
Q) Where can people find you online?
@HelloJanCo on Twitter, Janet Hitchen on LinkedIn and a new website coming soon!
Thank you Janet.
Go on, don’t be shy, here are the questions you need to answer. If you’ve never put yourself forward before, give it a go.
Thank you for stopping by
Rachel
