A week of firsts…

This week has been a packed one with lots of highlights and firsts. I was the other side of the camera for a secret photo shoot (can tell you more in a few weeks) and met some really interesting people there.

I went to my first station opening and my first batch of newly branded bits and bobs arrived. I’m pleased with how the business cards and letterheads have turned out and the reaction to them internally.

Last night I met up with a friend of mine, he is also working in-house as a comms professional. We used to be journalists on the same newspaper until I left seven years ago to move into corporate comms. We’d remained in touch via Facebook but not met up since I left. We bumped into each other at a PR event a while ago and finally put a date in our diaries to meet up.  We went back to our old news patch and reminisced about the stories we wrote, the people we met and the fun we had as a news team.

We compared the differences and noted the similarities between being journalists and working as corporate communicators. I’m always struck by just how small this industry really is; I often have conversations with people and find shared connections, agencies and workmates.

This week also marked the arrival of my first iPhone, hurrah. Having read so much about them I’ve been itching to get my hands on one and now that my personal phone contract is finally nearing the end, I’ve been able to upgrade.

Today I received the latest copy of Communicators magazine, which is published by Communicators in Business  (CiB but soon to be Institute of Internal Communication). I was pleased to note that Sarah, the comms exec I’m mentoring was featured alongside the team at Essex County Council. They are doing some interesting work there which is great experience for Sarah and it’s brilliant to see her recognised.

How was your week? Hope you had a good one.

Rachel
