As professional communicators, we often talk about how our work is behind-the-scenes.
We curate and create conversations and encourage the voices of our employees and leaders to be amplified.
Today I’m delighted to share the news with you that my Candid Comms Podcast Producer, Debbie West, has been shortlisted in the International Women’s Podcast Awards in the Moment of Behind-The-Scenes Brilliance Category.
I entered her for this award in recognition of her hard work and expertise and I’m thrilled she’s on the shortlist.
Over the past two seasons and 26 episodes, her internal communication and audio experience has come into its own in helping my guests and I prepare the episodes for your listening pleasure.
Debbie is an Internal Communication Consultant at All Things IC and also runs her own successful business, Seren Creative.
Together we lifted the lid on the reality of creating the Candid Comms podcast as the season one finale episode.
In it, we discussed the lessons I’ve learnt, mistakes I’ve made, what the role of a Producer is and much more.
You can find the Candid Comms podcast on your favourite player including Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify and Podbean.
During that behind-the-scenes episode I also talked candidly about my experiences working with audio, as someone who is hard of hearing, and the considerations we make to allow for accessibility through the podcast.
With that in mind, that conversation has seen me be shortlisted too in the International Women’s Podcast Awards in the Moment of Touching Honesty category.
The International Women’s Podcast Awards will be hosted at the Allbright in London on 23 September 2021 by acclaimed presenter, author and journalist Vick Hope of BBC Radio 1, with additional support from Acast, Blubrry, Captivate FM and Redhead PR.
Debbie and I will be attending in person to cheer each other on in our respective categories.
About the awards
The joy of podcasting lies in its intimacy. In the atmosphere created between the host, guest and listener. In the moments of incredible sensitivity, humour or honesty that keep people engrossed.
The International Women’s Podcast Awards say: “We celebrate these intimate moments of podcasting brilliance, and the women that make them happen. Our inaugural awards will recognise the work of those who identify as women or non-binary behind the mic and behind the scenes, from podcast hosts and writers, to editors and producers. Eight award categories will celebrate brilliant moments from podcasting in the previous 12 months, while one extra category will recognise outstanding achievement in podcasting.
“The International Women’s Podcast Awards aims to help level the playing field for women in this exciting and evolving industry, by rewarding and elevating the unsung podcast hosts, editors, producers and writers out there whose work deserves recognition.”
There are eight categories of ‘Moments’, which are:
- Moment of Comedy Gold
- Moment of Raw Emotion
- Moment of Cliffhanging Drama
- Moment of Touching Honesty
- Moment of Behind-the-Scenes Brilliance
- Moment of Entrepreneurship Inspiration
- Moment of Badass Business Advice
- Award for Changing The World One Moment At A Time.
Congratulations Debbie, fingers crossed for the awards next month.
Season Three of Candid Comms podcast will be out later this year.
Thank you to everyone who has listened to the first two seasons. The episodes are evergreen, which means they don’t date.
If you’ve missed an episode, you can find Candid Comms via your favourite podcast player or listen via the All Things IC website.
