If you’re an aspiring or existing Internal Communication Consultant, how can you make 2019 your best year yet?
Are you thinking about being a Consultant, but unsure if you’re ready to leave your in-house job? Or maybe you’ve been one for a while but want to build momentum in your business? Either way, I have a course to help and would like to invite you to work with me in my How to be a Comms Consultant Masterclasses in 2019.
(If you’re perfectly happy working in-house, my monthly Internal Comms, Strategic Internal Comms or Change Comms Masterclasses are for you – there’s something for everyone).
I’m so proud of all of my courses, I’ve designed them to give Internal Communicators a skills, knowledge and confidence boost. If you are a CIPR or IoIC member you can earn CPD points or hours while you learn.
I wish the Consultant ones existed six years ago when I was creating All Things IC!
Choose from:
- How to be a Comms Consultant – Exploration. For aspiring Consultants who are typically working in-house as IC pros. I’ve also welcomed people on a career break and parental leave.
- How to be a Comms Consultant – Momentum. For existing Consultants who are already running their own businesses and would like to build momentum and seek advice from peers.
Here’s a glimpse at the formula I use in the courses, I’ll explain it fully in a moment:
Let’s rewind slightly…
Five months ago I launched two brand new All Things IC Masterclasses to enable practitioners to have a safe space to come and get confidential help from me.
I keep them intimate, with up to five practitioners per session. This enables us to run an intensive Mastermind session for each person during the course, where you sit in the hot seat and have the opportunity to ask peers in the room for advice and guidance.
You don’t need to do lots of pre-work, just come prepared to be honest and enjoy having a confidential environment where you can ask me anything. I don’t share photographs of people attending these courses in the way I do with my monthly ones via LinkedIn. This is your chance to come and learn in private (which is particularly helpful if your in-house boss doesn’t know you may be thinking of leaving!).
By the end of this week I’ll have run both Exploration and Momentum Masterclasses twice each. I’ve continuously improved the content based on feedback from attendees over the past few months. If you’ve attended any of my courses over the past couple of years, you’ll know I survey delegates.
Ceri Aiken came to my Momentum Masterclass recently and is happy to have her thoughts known..
I have a formula I’ve been using at both Consultant Masterclasses. I’ve refined the wording, but what unites them is this structure:
- Clients: What’s your niche? What is the market like? How can you attract and keep clients?
- Organisation: How do you need to organise yourself? This includes the type of company you are/could be, plus collateral such as invoices, contracts and supplier set ups.
- Mechanics: What do you need to be aware of?
- Money: How to sell, how to pay yourself, how to charge the right rate.
- Strategy: What are you known for? How to build momentum in your business and create an action plan.
Eagle-eyed readers may spot that spells COMMS. Well, it only seemed right to have communication at the heart of doing business.
My Exploration Masterclass has a special guest as I invite Andy Macleod, Associate Director, UK Interim Communications at VMA Group, to join us. He does a 30-minute hot seat session and then joins us over lunchtime to continue answering questions.
Thank you @VMAGroupAndyM for joining my How to be a Comms Consultant – Exploration Masterclass today to share wisdom on the interim IC and Change market. We enjoyed putting you in the hot seat.
Andy will be returning to my next course on 8 Nov. Join us: https://t.co/m394bsD5pD pic.twitter.com/5K8wdcRQ22

Andy brings insights from all sides, which is an important addition to that course. He’s able to answer queries about what clients need from Consultants and Interim Contractors and what the current market is like. He also shares VMA Group’s own research.
Every Masterclass delegate is given a copy of my All Things IC workbook. You can buy your own for just £4.99 (£7.99 for European buyers).
It’s a week since I started selling my All Things IC workbook/journal. Thank you to everyone who has bought one or trialled it for me. They’re just £4.99 each and available now to inject some creativity into your #InternalComms https://t.co/lzBDOoxOA5 #AllThingsIC pic.twitter.com/gwsmrzvWZN

If you need tailored advice in 2019, choose my VIP mentoring option.
Every year I offer professional communicators the chance to work with me via a VIP mentoring package. I only sign six VIP clients twice a year to enable me to wholly dedicate time to you. We’ll spend the day together 1-2-1 in London and then have accountability calls over the course of six months to help you to succeed.
Would you like to work with me 1-2-1 in 2019? I have three of my six-month VIP mentoring packages left, which include face-to-face and phone sessions: https://t.co/NyV3lp4oiy. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Leah @humanizecomms this year, here’s how she found it… pic.twitter.com/Ogf7gEDFJV

During 2018, the comms pros I’ve been working with 1-2-1 have used these mentoring arrangements to suit their needs. For example, to enable me to support them as they’ve settled into new roles, to help prepare to leave in-house positions and consider consultancy, or to boost their confidence handling tricky stakeholders and challenges.
I already have three clients who have chosen to work with me next year, which I’m really looking forward to. That means there are just three places remaining. Your investment is £3499 +VAT and our work together will start in February 2019.
Do get in touch with any queries.
Thank you to everyone who has trained with me this year, I’ve just marked training my 450th Internal Communicator, which is a real joy. Thank you for choosing All Things IC, I can’t wait to help you to succeed in 2019 and beyond.
I’ve got some exciting plans up my sleeve for next year. Sign up to my free monthly newsletter, The Water Cooler, to be kept updated as I share news there first.
Thank you for stopping by. If you have any queries, you’re welcome to comment below or Tweet me @AllthingsIC.
