The best internal communicators in the UK gathered at London’s Park Plaza Riverbank hotel tonight for the Institute of Internal Communication Awards 2014.
Nearly 40 IoIC award winners took to the stage to receive their trophies as class winners, while many more received awards of excellence for their work. Congratulations to everyone who had their hard work honoured tonight, it was great to see some of my clients on the list.
Institute president Suzanne Peck presented the awards on “the night when we celebrate the good – and the downright amazing – in internal communication today”.
She said the awards covered the channels, strategies and people that are making a difference – and judging had been tough. There were 600 entries and three judging rounds.
According to the IoIC website, Paul Smith of London agency AB, editor of Wow magazine for the Post Office which took the Gold Award for Best Publication said: “It’s absolutely amazing, I can’t believe it. I’m really pleased for the team because we changed Wow to appeal to our readers after a survey revealed that many of them were women over 40 and wanted to read something in the style of Now or Take A Break.”
Greg Stewart of Tesco was there to pick up the Gold Award for Best Strategy for Kill Spill, a campaign to inform the giant retailer’s staff about the dangers of trips and slips. It was achieved with an animated character called Kill Spill who appeared in a film and then an ezine and poster campaign. Greg said: “I can’t believe we’ve won, but it was an important campaign which has had a really positive affect on cutting accidents in our stores.”
