Jobs like this don’t come along very often.
Here’s your chance to step into the best policy and communications job in the public sector – at the centre of everything.
We believe in giving residents a genuinely leading role in policy development and shaping our services and in doing things ‘with our local residents, not to them’. Our philosophy is to enhance public life by empowering residents to change their own neighbourhoods for the better.
Now we’re looking for someone with the skills and passion to develop these cutting-edge policies, tell this amazing Hammersmith & Fulham story, and work across the council to improve the opportunities, and well-being of our citizens – helping to make Hammersmith & Fulham the best place to live, work and grow a business.
As Assistant Director of Policy and Communications, that’s your mission.
You’ll do that through everyday engagement with residents and staff; through our resident-led commissions and ward panels; through our massive Hammersmith & Fulham Nextdoor community, our website and digital channels; social media; and through formal policy development.
You need to be able to demonstrate wide-ranging experience of innovation and excellence in both policy and communications, especially in digital communications and social media. You must be used to operating in a highly pressured political environment with constant demands and challenges. You’ll need to be cool under pressure and this certainly isn’t a role for the faint-hearted. But the scope to try new things, with the backing of supportive and experienced colleagues, is immense.
Come and join us and start the best days of your career.

- To work across the council to build H&F’s reputation as a progressive and forward-thinking organisation and as a digitally connected borough, bringing local organisations together to promote digital services and tackle digital exclusion.
