Communications Director, Northern Europe, Facebook

Facebook is seeking a Communications Director, Northern Europe to run our communications in Northern Europe which covers the UK, Ireland and the Nordics.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about Facebook, has good tech industry understanding, is an exceptional writer, with significant experience in developing and executing high-profile communications initiatives that can enhance the reputation of the company. To be truly successful in this position, the ideal candidate must be a strong people leader, able to influence and operate at a leadership level in the region. \
You’ll have a considerable network in the UK and experience of working in other regions. What’s more, you’ll thrive in a demanding, fast-moving environment.
You will have a deep understanding of how communications can work most effectively with the business, marketing and policy teams and you will have good interpersonal skills that enable you to work with our partners across the company, both in EMEA and in the US. You will have strong experience in executing high-profile communications initiatives as well as intimate knowledge of how reporters work, and you are an exceptional writer in English, with additional regional languages a plus, but not essential.
The role requires creating and managing proactive and reactive communications, from planning to execution.
You will manage a small team across the region based in London, Dublin and Sweden.
You will become part of the EMEA communications leadership team reporting to the Vice President of Communications for EMEA.
You will need to work closely with the US communication team and hand in hand with the specialist EMEA central comms team.
This position is full-time and is currently located in Facebook’s London office, but will require travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver innovative communication campaigns that improve the reputation of the company with consumers, businesses and opinion formers
  • Engage and educate editors, beat journalists, bloggers and influencers about Facebook products and services
  • Organize press briefings, media sessions, and events
  • Prepare briefing materials and manage spokespeople as necessary
  • Work closely with external PR agencies across the region
  • Work closely with cross functional partners to ensure effective collaboration and driving key strategic outcomes for the region
  • Oversee and manage a budget and a small but high calibre team
  • Strong leadership skills with proven experience of leading and developing a high-performing team
  • Operate as a key member of the EMEA Leadership Team, contributing to the overarching strategy of the function whilst making a positive impact on executing proactive communications campaigns across the region
  • Represent Facebook at a leadership level both internally and externally, communicating Facebook’s position on key communications issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree and the ability to apply relevant knowledge from this field to communications
  • Significant professional experience in communications or public relations, at a leadership level, both agency and in-house
  • Fluency in English
  • Ideally experience working in the technology or advertising industries or other fast paced and consumer focused businesses
  • Experience working with business and opinion leaders to achieve communications goals
  • Experience in managing PR agencies, contractors and project management
  • Experience working in diverse cross-border teams or in an international environment
  • Team player with exceptional project management and decision-making skills
  • Experience in the practical application of technology.
