Content Manager – External Channels and Content

M&S is a much-loved British brand and business that is changing fast – but still with the values of quality, service, value and innovation at its heart. The Colleague Communications team is critical to this as it is responsible for engaging, enabling and empowering our c.70,000 colleagues to come with us on that change. It is a dynamic, creative and fun place to work and we need dynamic, creative and fun people to help us drive the change our colleagues know we need to make.

We are looking for a creative, knowledgeable and resourceful Content & Channels Manager to join the channels and content team. The Content Manager will be responsible for delivering (creating, coordinating and publishing) programmes of planned, strategic content as well as reactive responses that can arise out of the blue. As Content Manager you’ll need to be highly organised and completely comfortable with demanding deadlines.

This is much more than a social media role. While growing our social media presence and engagement is a significant part of this role, the other aspects require a rounded corporate communications professional, with experience researching and writing long-form articles, detailed corporate presentations and working across multiple channels.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Ability to demonstrate broad and deep knowledge of social media platforms—the personalities, limitations and opportunities of each—as well as sound communications judgement
  • A qualification or background in English, journalism, public relations, media studies or communications.
  • Used to working within strict brand guidelines, comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback, and undaunted by working with large stakeholder groups to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget
  • Advanced presentation and PowerPoint skills
  • Worked with at least one of the following website CMSs (Sitecore, ContentStack, Umbraco, Drupal)
  • At least five years’ experience working at a similar level in corporate communications across a range of channels.
  • Exceptional writing skills with a flair for turning complex, technical concepts into engaging but accurate communications for all audiences
  • It is essential to have an excellent understanding of copyright and data privacy regulations (including GDPR).
