As a senior communications manager you will lead a talented team to deliver exciting and creative social media, a cutting-edge website, innovative internal communications and an ambitious events schedule for senior leadership.

The successful candidate will work with colleagues from the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England and across NHSX to deliver exciting health campaigns, making the most out of our own channels and those of partners to ensure maximum reach and engagement.

Whether delivering for ministers or senior NHS directors on topics varying from artificial intelligence to digital systems supporting vaccine delivery, no day is the same. This is a busy, strategic role at the heart of one of the most exciting briefs in Whitehall and one firmly rooted in making a real difference to patient outcomes through the power of technology.

Job description

  • Leading a team of communications professionals to deliver excellent results across NHSX’s corporate channels – social media, website, internal communications, media and events.
  • Working with the communications senior leadership team to drive strategy across communications and peer to peer with colleagues to ensure corporate communications is delivered as part of a wider campaigns approach.
  • Overseeing the planning function in communications with accountability for the strategic forward look.
  • Working alongside media colleagues to ensure proactive and reactive communications are delivered at pace and to a high standard to ensure delivery on key priorities.
  • Acting as an ambassador for NHSX communications, providing trusted advice to key stakeholders ranging from ministers to senior NHS directors across all comms functions.


Key requirements for role

We are looking for a senior communications professional with experience of leading teams to deliver excellent results across a wide-ranging communications brief. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a strategic communications role with examples of delivery across internal communications, media and digital. They should also have experience of leading teams in the delivery of co-ordinated campaigns to meet organisational objectives. Candidates should be confident in presenting to and advising senior stakeholders and educated to degree standard or above.
