Happy New Year to readers of my blog, I hope you enjoyed the holiday season, and if it’s your first day back at work today, I hope it goes well.
Seeing as we’re in January and pay day probably seems like a long way away, here are three comms freebies to keep your wallets and Finance Directors happy.
Free ebook on PR in 2014
I promised I wouldn’t write a trends report here for what’s ahead in 2014. Why? Because in reality only you know what will be important for your business in the year ahead and I don’t have a crystal ball to be able to predict the future. If only!
I could of course write an article based on what I know are the hot topics among people in my network and my clients based on our recent conversations, and what you’re searching for on my blog.
However, instead, I thought I’d share the following document with you.
It’s a free ebook that has been produced by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) to “Look at the trends and issues affecting public relations in 2014, with insight from the regional, national and sector groups of the CIPR.”
You can follow conversations about it on Twitter #PR2014 and read it via SlideShare or below.
In my voluntary role as Deputy Chair of CIPR Inside, the sector group for internal communication professionals, I contributed on behalf of the group and internal communicators.
People across the whole membership have written about what is important to their sector groups for the coming year, including Construction and Property, Education and Skills, Public Affairs, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Do grab a cup of tea and some of the leftover Christmas chocolates (you know you want to), and have a read through.
After having discussions with other committee members, the three key areas for us as a group of internal communicators are:
- Blurring of internal and external communication
- Building capability
- Digital evolution
Does that fit with your thinking for the year ahead? You can read full info in the ebook to discover the thoughts behind the headlines.
I found it interesting to discover the different perspectives across the CIPR membership and hope you enjoy it too.
Free event for culturevists
The second freebie is news of a brand new event taking place on 16 January. It’s being hosted by Matthew Partovi, @matthewpartovi.
He’s not only one of the smartest people I know, but is also Global Program Design Lead for Yammer’s Strategic Customer Programs.
It’s taking place at Yammer’s London office from 7-9pm and Matthew says this event is for you if…
“You’re an activist in your own organisation. You care so much about your culture that you’re pretty much willing to lose your job for it.
This is an opportunity to meet and bounce ideas around with people like us. You’ll hear a few 5-minute talks of things that other organisations do to create an amazing culture, and we can take the conversation wherever we want to.
This is an informal meetup with drinks and light-food, with the first one hosted at Yammer’s London offices (seeing as I work for Yammer I could easily get the space). #culturevists of the world, unite!”
Interested? I’ve got my ticket. Sign up for your free ticket here.
