October is breast cancer awareness month and I’m delighted to turn All Things IC pink to help raise awareness and support a friend of mine in her fundraising.
I’m offering a day of communication consultancy plus a four-week long job advert (the ad is worth £200 alone) as part of Helen Deverell’s crowdfunding for CoppaFeel! charity.
Regular readers will recognise Helen’s name from her hard work as a professional communicator. This includes being named in the Institute of Internal Communication’s 30 under 30 and as the author of The introverted revolution in internal comms article on my blog.
I shared Helen’s news in March when she revealed publicly that she had been battling (and winning) against breast cancer after being diagnosed aged 29 last year.
Her post on her blog from January: “Controlling the message: how I told the world I had cancer” is incredibly powerful.
Helen is amazing. She always has been, but her quest to use her comms skills to ensure other people are exposed to the same messages that helped save her life underlines this.
You can see her alongside fellow “Boobettes” in this video explaining what October means for them.
Here she writes for my blog on what she’s up to and how you can help raise much-needed funds for a worthy cause, and benefit from my time too. Over to you Helen…
Fancy winning a day’s consultancy with All Things IC?
Let’s face it, who wouldn’t? Rachel Miller has very kindly donated a day’s consultancy, and the opportunity to advertise your job vacancy on All Things IC for a whole month to my crowdfund for the charity CoppaFeel!
For people that are new to my blog, I was diagnosed with breast cancer last November at the age of 29. One of the reasons I found my lump when I did, was because I knew it was possible to get breast cancer in your 20s, thanks to the fantastic awareness raising of the charity CoppaFeel!
It saved my life.
I now volunteer as a Boobette for the charity. Boobettes go into schools and workplaces to tell our stories and raise awareness. To ensure we can continue this good work, we’re crowdfunding for the month of October (breast cancer awareness month).
For those of you unfamiliar with crowdfunding, it’s as simple as when you pledge/give to the charity you get prizes!
I’ve managed to snag some pretty awesome things from businesses including All Things IC, Vue cinema, Nando’s, Jack Daniels, The Entertainer Toy shop and many more. I’m also offering out my writing, proof reading, dvd organising, dog walking and babysitting services.
To win one of these, all you have to do is pledge. For anything I’m offering myself, you just need to pledge the amount specified for the service you require and we’ll sort out a date for me to deliver it.
For anything donated by businesses, your pledge will enter you into a prize draw and I’ll be picking the winners at the end of October.
Pledges start from £3 and finish at £50.
A huge thank you to Rachel for her very generous donation. Any support readers can give is hugely appreciated and if you’re not able to donate at this time, if you do nothing else after reading this – check your boobs!
Helen
To support Helen @helenw7 and pledge for some of my time please see her crowdfunding site.
All the money will go to CoppaFeel to help raise awareness to hopefully help save more lives and fund essential support services.
The small print: I’m fully booked until February 2016, so the day of my time will be from the end of February onwards. It will be in person if you’re in London, or remotely if you’re further afield. See the What we do page to discover how All Things IC works. The job advert can be redeemed any time between now and the end of December 2016.
