How often do you audit your internal communication?
How can you unlock budget to conduct an audit?
What do you need to consider before auditing?
If you’re grappling with this topic in your organisation, help is at hand.
Thank you to everyone who asked me to record a Candid Comms podcast episode to help you make sense of auditing internal communication.
Spoiler: it’s not as scary as it seems. I’ve revealed my definition and guided you through the process we use here at All Things IC.
I’ve been writing about audits on the All Things IC blog for years.
Back in 2014, I wrote a guide for the Institute of Internal Communication, to help their members learn how to audit. While researching it, I remember getting my dictionary out to determine what the word audit actually means.
I discovered it comes from the latin word auditus, which relates to listening, or to hear.
I then used that as the hook for the guide and wrote about it via the All Things IC blog.
I’m currently writing an Online Masterclass to teach IC pros how you can conduct your own audit, which will be available on demand before Christmas.
If you need help with an IC audit, do get in touch with Team Teal and I and check out our audit page on this website.
We can conduct a whole audit for you, or guide you through the process and support you along the way as you audit your organisation.
Nathan Lister at Save the Children International invited All Things IC to audit their IC through an audience lens, so they had strong insights and foundations upon which to build a new IC function. Nathan says: “All Things IC have been incredible to work with, offering expertise, guidance and flexibility throughout the process of working with us to create a brand new Internal Comms unit within our organisation, helping to bring together a global workforce.”

Absolutely brilliant. It has been extremely useful especially the part I always got a challenge with…starting the audit without a hypothesis. Thank you so much on this insight. This is definitely going to be my next project.
