Some of my biggest career mistakes

If I asked you to name the biggest mistake you’ve made in your career, what would you say?

What about miscommunication? Where have you mucked up, got it wrong or failed?

Last week I had the pleasure of being a guest on a brand new podcast called Internal Miscommunications. It’s hosted by Erica Goodwin in the US and Keith Riley in the UK.

The show has been released today and I’ve shared some of the many mishaps, miscommunications and mistakes I’ve made in my career.

In a few weeks’ time I’ll hit my 21 year working milestone. I joined my local newspaper as a trainee Journalist in the week before my 19th birthday.

It’s fair to say I could have filled the whole podcast episode listing out my mistakes! But I enjoyed the conversation with Erica and Keith.

Reflecting on the past

I spoke to my Mum over the weekend and asked her if she remembered it. She did, vividly, and shared my collective sense of regret.

Everyone makes mistakes. We’re human. But it’s what we do as a result of them and what we learn, which is where our focus needs to be.

You can listen to the show across various podcast platforms and find Erica and Keith @ICMisComms on Twitter or @internalmiscommunications on Instagram.
