The award-winning Comms pros are…

On Friday night I had the pleasure of joining over 380 Internal Comms professionals in London for the annual Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC) Awards 2019.

Congratulations to everyone who won or made the shortlist. As part of the Judging team again this year, I saw firsthand how hard everyone has been working. If you’re on the list, you should feel incredibly proud.

The ceremony took place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Park Lane and was hosted by Awards Director Justine Stevenson and IoIC Chief Executive, Jennifer Sproul.

Jennifer kicked off the evening’s proceedings saying: “We have a lot to celebrate tonight, with a fantastic line up awards to hand out to recognise the amazing work you all do.

“In addition we are celebrating our 70th anniversary as an organisation, we have achieved a tremendous amount as a profession and what I love most is that we have this fantastic wealth of experience, as we have helped organisations guide their employees through periods of change as well support the creation and delivery of great working cultures all built on a framework of high standards for what we now know as internal communication.

|We have the experience, knowledge and skills built on decades of work,  yet we are evolving and growing and continually being recognised as a vital profession in order for organisations to thrive in the changing world of work, business and society.  We are not a nice to have but a must have!”

There was a total of 38 class winners and once again the Grand Prix Award winner was the pinnacle of the evening. This top trophy went to AZ2025: Think. Transform. Together. for AstraZeneca by Ruder Finn UK.

As part of IoIC’s 70th anniversary they introduced a new award, the #WeMatterAtWork Award, which recognises internal communicators who exemplify IoIC’s purpose and make their colleagues feel they matter at work. This award was won by Tim Rutter from Tata Steel.

I spoke to Tim afterwards and he was so gracious and surprised, we’re pictured together at the awards (below).

There’s only a couple of places left.

Perhaps you’re fairly new in role or have found yourself responsible for IC. Or maybe you’ve never studied comms before and would like to learn more. This is the course for you.
