What to expect at CommsHero Week 2022

First launched in 2014, CommsHero Week brings together the communication community for a weeklong event, celebrating the comms community across all PR disciplines.

This year our very own Communication Consultants, Caroline Cubbon-King and Dan Holden are running a session on ‘Measure what you treasure’ and they’ll be giving you a chance to win an All Things IC stationery bundle! We invited Asif Choudry, Founder of #CommsHero to share what you can expect from CommsHero Week 2022.

Over to you Asif..

It’s eight years since the #CommsHero community was set up to celebrate the heroics comms people perform every day. What a way to mark this with #CommsHero week, 19-23 September! We’ve gone all out this year to make the weeklong virtual event even better for our attendees. We’ve added more sessions so there are now 50 that will be live streamed during the week and on-demand for 12 months.

This means we have over 70 speakers covering many comms topics including internal comms, diversity & inclusion, creativity, Tik Tok, the language of disability, the value of communicators and measurement from All Things IC’s very own Caroline Cubbon-King and Dan Holden. Here’s the event link to find out more #CommsHero Week 2022 – CommsHero.

Community is such an overused term in the modern comms world with the rise of social media and new job titles such as Community Manager. When we started CommsHero in 2014, the buzzword was tribes. It all amounts to the same thing as indicated in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. We all love to belong to a group and CommsHero brings that sense of belonging. I wrote about this in a chapter of the book, FutureProof by Sarah Waddington.

This is the 15th event in those eight years, and since the pandemic, we’ve changed the format to online. This has given us the flexibility to bring more content to the delegates but also give lots of different comms people the chance to share their knowledge. Most of the speakers do the comms job for a living, and that is very important for us. We want to bring current comms and marketing thinking to the forefront and hear from people who are new to comms through to those with 20+ years of experience.

The speakers are from a diverse range of sectors and backgrounds, and this is a first-hand demonstration that you can and should promote diversity within all events.

All this takes time, and it’s an honour to spend the time (over a few months) searching for great content and speakers to benefit the #CommsHero community.

As a communicator, I like to think that I share the same qualities as lots of other fellow communicators. The desire to help people is what drives us. Whether it’s helping brands and organisations communicate their values, strategies, and marketing messages to internal and external audiences through to helping fellow communicators when they need some advice or support.

CommsHero exists to bring these people together and help them connect and support each other.

#CommsHero week is a timely reminder for these selfless communicators to reflect and celebrate the heroics they perform every day. We are so wrapped up in helping our organisations and clients be promoted in the best light possible that we often forget to celebrate our own achievements. I urge all communicators, whether you’re attending or not to promote themselves, their teams and their achievements on all social channels and include the hashtag #CommsHero during 19-23 September 2022.

For those that are attending, wear your #CommsHero pin badge and t-shirt with pride and join us to show the world the value we bring to our organisations. I hope CommsHero Week kick-starts more people into valuing their worth and celebrating this every day.

Although a big fan of social media, he’s not afraid to use tried and tested comms channels like meeting IRL (In Real Life), speaking on the phone and handwriting a letter or three.
