What’s top of mind for you at the moment?
Every month, All Things IC Communication Consultant Caroline Cubbon-King shares a regular column that reveals what your peers are asking for help with, which we know you find useful. Thanks Caroline.
We are often asked by comms friends how many people should be in an internal communication team, whether they should have specialist or generalist skills and how to balance stakeholder expectations with team numbers.
- How effective is your team?
- Do you have the right people in the right roles?
- Do you have enough resources to deliver what’s asked of you?
This year we conducted an in-depth review for a large Corporate Comms team tasked with increasing capacity with fewer resources.
We undertook benchmarking research, looked at industry insights and took a deep dive into how the team was set up and how it prioritised work.
Through our work, we were able to identify opportunities to:
- Align and streamline services without reducing quality
- Give team members the chance to expand their skill set
- Refocus on core business critical services that add the most value
There is no perfect team size or shape.
We’ve seen one person delivering internal communication for a business with 30,000 people and a 10-strong person team in much smaller organisations.
We work confidentially with comms pros and know how sensitive this type of work can be.
Clients say having us alongside them to have honest conversations, test ideas and discuss job descriptions helps them make the right decisions for their team and company.
If you aren’t sure whether your team set up is working and would like some advice, do get in touch. We can provide a full range of support, from signposting you to benchmarking insights to conducting a full team review on your behalf.
