The next 10 days or so will see professional communicators gathering to learn about all things internal communication related.
From IABC’s Future Fit Communications, to Simply Communicate’s Smilelondon 2016 workshops, there’s a lot to choose from. Today’s What’s on this week covers 8 to 19 May 2016.
Feedback from readers shows you like planning further than a week ahead, so I publish this article every Sunday and cover the next 10 days or so.
I write it every Sunday morning while chaperoning my three-year-old’s piano lesson. I’m currently listening to her singing and playing along to Do-Re-Mi while I’m typing. I know that’s going to be stuck in my head all day now!

Being fit for the future
The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) event on 16 May examines what’s in store for the world of business. It features 12 speakers who will share their thoughts on “evolutions, innovations and the role communications will play in making their organisations fit for the future.”
Tickets are £50 for IABC members and £100 for non-members. If you are a member and bring a non-member, they’ll get member pricing.
I’m planning to attend the SMILE (Social Media Inside Large Enterprise) workshops and Theblueballroom’s event.
See the list below to discover what’s on:
- 11-12 May: Best practices for internal communicators with small staff and budget, Ragan, San Francisco
- 12 May: Smilelondon 2016 workshops from Simply Communicate
- 12 May: IntranetNow ESN workshop, Birmingham
- 13 May: Deadline for Public Sector Communications Awards
- 16 May: Future Fit communications, London, IABC
- 17 May: TAKE PRIDE event from Theblueballroom, London
- 19 May: Ask The Guru, CIPR Inside, Storytelling event
Well done to the Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC) for their annual conference last week. I thought it was the best one I’ve been to in recent years, mainly due to the mix of speakers and venue. Well done to the organising committee.
As a member (and Fellow) of the Institute, I’d like to thank Steve Doswell for his leadership to date as CEO. At the AGM ahead of the conference he passed the baton to the new Chief Executive Jennifer Sproul (pictured).
Jennifer and I caught up over dinner at the conference and I’m excited by her vision and plans for the IoIC.
Sounds like there’s lots of good things in store and I wish her well with her new appointment.
I always enjoy hearing Dr Leandro Herrero speaking, and his session was the highlight for me. I think my Tweet captures how I was feeling…
I want to bottle @LeandroEHerrero‘s enthusiasm and wisdom. Such a brilliant speaker (and kudos for using a Kevin Spacey GIF) #ioiclive16
